Forgive my absence and the delay. I have been trying to do what’s “right”. Turns out there’s a lot that’s right. A LOT. Writing this blog is right. It always has been for us. Bringing clarity in the midst of the chaotic nature of life. Blogging is the one thing that’s just for you and I. No one else. That’s probably why it hasn’t been a priority. We chose this path a long time ago. Serving the world around us and feeding ourselves with whatever scraps are left.
Don’t you start pitying us now. We have been well aware of the cost of life. And like Sallie Mae, life never misses a payment date. It has the right to collect. No man, woman, or other living creature have left this earth without paying what they owe. Well, there was one who owed nothing but paid it all, but that’s a story for another time.
The tree outside of our bedroom window is starting to regrow its leaves. For months it lay dormant and bare, stripped of all its life by the wind and bitter cold. Even nature has its own agreements with life. In the spring and summer, that tree is allowed to thrive and bloom, providing people just like us with shade, beauty, and even a cheesy post for their IG. Then fall comes and a debt needs to be paid.
Don’t think that we’re any different from that tree. We’re the same after all. Birthed from the same cosmic event, made up of the very same universal matter, bound by the same law. We all owe. Only difference is we have feelings about our fate. We feel shortchanged when our debt requires payment, whereas the tree, or the bird that just perched outside our window, or the sun warming the pages of this notebook, or the notebook itself which once was a living thing but now only lives by way of the shapes of ink pressed into it through the stroke of our pen; each of these living beings seem to inherently understand and be content with the agreement of life.
We all are born and what follows is simply a pattern of living and dying until the final debt is to be paid.
There is not “right”. No excuses are necessary. Yes, I have been away for a time but I had to pay a debt, just like the one I am paying to you now.
